Day 13: Late post

Sorry for the delay, was feeling lazy! Anyway, for some reason the idea of George Washington in a South Pole shirt cracked me up. So here ya go.

Day 12: Breaking Bad

I had a friend request a Breaking Bad picture, so I did. Really had fun with this one.

As usual, click to make bigger. I actually think this one looks noticeably better at its original size.

Day 11: Tired day

I was super tired today from all the hiking yesterday, so I just did a little drawing of Grumpy Cat. I couldn't think of anything clever or smarmy to say, and I want to do more work on the face at some point, so I may try this again sometime. Enjoy!

Day Ten: From a cliff!

Today, my friends and I hiked up to the highest point in PA and MD. At MD's peak they had a guestbook you could sign, so I decided to draw a picture in it. Attached you'll find my little sketch. It's nothing impressive, but it was more about the experience and location than anything. Overall, a great day!

1. It's a little blurry
2. That's not my hand. It's my lovely assistant, Allison.

Day Nine: The Old Bear

This is Jeor Mormont from Game of Thrones. I guess the quote could be considered mildly spoil-y, but whatever. Tribute to an awesome character.

Quick note: I'll be away from the comp tomorrow so you're gonna get a picture of my drawing taken from my phone. Lower quality hooray!

Day Eight: Back to the Future II Reference

I always think about how cool it would be to be able to go back in time and steal J.K. Rowling's idea. Does that make me a bad person? Maybe. Anyway, this won't make much sense if you haven't seen Back to the Future 2. Though to be honest, if you haven't, what's wrong with you? Go rent it.

Day Seven: Beach Scene

Saw a picture similar to this earlier today and decided to try and draw it. Enjoy!

Day Six: Spiderman Experimentation

I wanted to mess around a little bit with using a real background along with one of my illustrations. If I were to go about doing this again, I think I would change the process. I ended up putting the location in at the end, whereas I think it would work better with the location placed first and me drawing over it. Also, not sure I really like the drawing in this one. I think I messed up the proportions a little bit, and the lines are a little too blurred for my liking. Ah well, they can't all be winners, and there's only one way to get better!

Day Four: Winter Is Coming

Despite the fact that it is almost summer, Game of Thrones is in the midst of it's third season, which means, as the Starks would say, "Winter is Coming." Enjoy this quick little sketch of Ned Stark's face. Also, Sean Bean has a big nose.

Day Three: Coffee

Since I came down to the wire last night with my Yoda picture, I decided to knock today's drawing out nice and early. The inspiration for this masterpiece comes from the coffee cup sitting next to me right now. Oh, and since today's Bryce Sheaffer's birthday and he loves coffee, I guess this is in tribute to him. It's also his wife's birthday, but I didn't draw anything for her. Maybe next year, Tess!

Enjoy.

Day Two: The Force

I love Star Wars. As such, you get a Yoda picture that I am super happy with. I messed around a bit with color and textures and I'm so pleased with how it turned out (the hood could be a little better, but after tooling with it for 20 minutes I gave up). That said, it took like 4 hours.

P.S. - If you click it does get a little bigger.

Day One: A Beginning

When I was in 4th grade, I began drawing Pokemon. I thought it was a fun way to waste time during class, and when I first started, I was about as good as you'd expect a 4th grader to be. Senior year of high school I got a Bamboo Fun digital drawing tablet for my birthday and I've been using that mostly since. I've worked on this hobby for the past however-many years and I've decided to take it a little more seriously and put some serious impetus on myself to improve.

So here's how it's gonna be: I've decided to try and draw a picture every day for the next year. The drawings may sometimes be just a simple little doodle or sometimes bigger projects, but I promise to try and get SOMETHING down every day. Sometimes the pictures will be fully colored and all prettied up, sometimes they will be half-finished ideas that I just wanted to get onto paper. Sometimes they will be a funny comic strip, other times they might be portraits of friends and family. I'm intending to buy an instructional book or two to develop myself further, so sometimes you'll see various assignments that are laid out in said books. All in all, this is going to be my virtual sketchbook where I will share what I'm working on with you.

Here you will be able to track my progress, comment on pieces you like or don't like, and see how I (hopefully) improve. I look forward to beginning this project, despite the fact that I know it will be a real struggle at times to get motivation. I hope that you enjoy at least one or two of the pieces I put up, and hopefully you'll check back often.

And so, without further ado, picture number one for day one. A brief self portrait to get us started (completed just before midnight!)
